McNeill awaits trial in Sydney
 13 August 2006
New Zealand murder accused Glenn McNeill being flown from Norfolk Island to Sydney today to await trial
Nelson chef Glenn McNeill is being flown to Sydney today to await trial for the murder of Janelle Patton.

The 28-year-old has pleaded not guilty to her murder, the first on Norfolk Island in 150 years.

Australian federal police have said they will examine new evidence implicating McNeill's ex-wife Aliesha Taylor in a violent confrontation on the day Janelle died back in 2002.

The evidence was presented by a surprise witness at the committal hearing on the island during the week.

Tracy Wilkinson told the court on Friday that she saw Ms Taylor shouting at and hitting a woman outside the hotel where they worked.

Afterwards she saw what looked like blood on Ms Taylor's sweatshirt.

Tracy Wilkinson, a friend of 29-year-old Janelle Patton, gave an interview to police about the matter for the first time on Tuesday night.

McNeill himself will be held at Sydney's Silverwater jail until he faces trial before the supreme court on Norfolk Island.

It is thought that could be at the end of this year.
