Spared from being bullied in prison
 3 September 2010
A cross-dressing learner driver who killed his girlfriend in a car crash has been spared jail after a judge ruled he'd be bullied in prison
A cross-dressing learner driver who killed his girlfriend in a car crash has been spared jail after a judge ruled he'd be bullied in prison.

Jayke Baldwin, who has a gender identity disorder and has cross-dressed since he was 15-years-old, was speeding when he lost control of his car on a dirt road and hit a tree near Melbourne, in February last year.

His girlfriend was thrown from the car and died.

The sentencing judge says prison would be tough on Baldwin because of gender identity issues, his effeminate appearance and his Asperger's syndrome.

Baldwin was given a suspended sentence of three years's jail. The decision is likely to be reviewed by a higher court.
