Two years jail for Queenstown manslaughter

Paul Richards has received two years jail and ordered to pay reparation after Mark Smith was killed in drunken Queenstown incident
A former Queenstown man has been sentenced to two years jail on a manslaughter charge
Paul Richards earlier admitted the manslaughter of 47-year-old Mark James Smith, on November 19, following a late night alcohol fuelled incident where Mr Smith was punched twice at a taxi stand in the town and later died. Richards was also ordered to pay $50,000 reparation when he appeared for sentencing in the High Court in Invercargill today.
Richards' defence lawyer said he had no previous convictions in the UK or in New Zealand, and his remorse, good character and the reparation he offered to pay were all mitigating factors in the case.
