Police warn Asian students they are being targeted by drug gangs; 3 students arrested after drugs bust in Auck during weekend
Asian students are being warned to avoid getting mixed up in drug gangs after police seized a large quantity of an ingredient used to make the drug P.
Police and Customs officers discovered 67 kilograms of ContacNT concealed inside hollowed out compartments on pallets of Chinese granite in a container at Ports of Auckland at the weekend. Five Chinese men have been arrested. Two are permanent residents and the others are in the country on student visas.
Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Cahill says police have noticed a trend over the past year.
"These Asian drug syndicates, and particularly Chinese, are using Chinese students at some of the lower levels of the offending and they don't always realise the risks they are taking."
Mr Cahill says in this case, the students knew what they were involved in.
