UPDATE MAY 2002: Kidnapper sentenced
The unemployed, 54-year-old man pleaded guilty immediately after being arrested.
When appeared in the Wellington District Court in May he also pleaded guilty to charges of committing a crime with a firearm, by violent means rendering Ms Hall incapable of resisting the kidnapping, and threatening to kill Ms Hall's two nieces.

On 25 May 2002 he was sentenced to a concurrent term of 11 years jail on the five charges. The maximum for kidnapping is 14 years.

Wearing glasses, a white jacket and black trousers he was delivered to Rimutaka prison to begin his sentence.
